The Jacobsen's organ is located in the roof
of a cat's mouth. It is is linked with the sense of smell and taste.
When a cat smells something "interesting" such as catnip
he excercises his Jacobsen's organ. This is visible when you see your cat "grimicing" or opening his mouth and
wrinkling his nose and "snuffeling" at something. This action is known as Flehmening. It is the action
of drawing air over the Jacobsen organ in the roof of his mouth.
The cat can smell and taste at the same time
with this organ.
